Electrical Rail Systems Estimator – Job Description

We have positions available for an Electrical Rail Systems Estimator in both our UK Head Office (Chesterfield) and our new International HQ in Dubai.

Essential Requirements:

  • 5 years’ minimum UAE experience
  • Depot Rail Systems experience

Core Responsibilities:

  • Proactively engage with all members of the Emeg team to promote a harmonious working environment
  • Assist the pre-construction team in achieving the annual sales and turnover targets set by the Operations Director
  • Preparation of timely tender submissions produced in such a way that will provide Emeg with the greatest possible chance of securing the works
  • Generally, act and behave in a professional manner which promotes the company’s image in the marketplace
  • Actively promote the company to clients and vendors alike to achieve, and retain, strong relationships with relevant members of organisations to ensure a continuous workstream and the most commercially attractive offerings to Emeg
  • Receive and inspect incoming enquiries for completeness and confirm all required documentation is present and available for use in preparation of the tender
  • Download, save and log incoming enquiries in accordance with the QA filing structure
  • Printing off relevant documents required for the pricing of works
  • Prepare specialist material and sub-contractor enquiries and provide to vendors for the pricing of the specialist elements of the works
  • Conduct commercial reviews on incoming tenders from specialist materials and sub-contractors and select the most commercially and technically viable option for inclusion within our own tender
  • Prepare and submit RFI / TQ to the client for any required clarification to the tender scope
  • Carry out “take-offs” of tender drawings and record within the estimate build up in accordance with, where applicable, the clients tender pricing document(s) or if not available, the company’s pricing document specific to the tender enquiry
  • Where appropriate, in conjunction with the company’s design engineers, carry out tender design for design and build projects
  • Prepare estimate documentation and pricing for final commercial review by the pre-construction team and / or Operations Director
  • Attend final settlement meeting to discuss and agree the tender including all aspects of pricing, commercial terms, programming, labour requirement and site preliminaries costs
  • Prepare final tender submission letter and pricing summary highlighting both general and project-specific exclusions / clarifications
  • Where required, prepare tender deliverables required by the client / project brief / main contractor
  • Take responsibility for engaging with clients throughout the tender process to ensure a full understanding of the project and project requirements
  • Liaise with clients post tender to discuss any post-tender clarifications, attend post-tender meetings and promote the tender offer to ensure best possible chance for Emeg to secure the work
  • Carry out any possible “Value Engineering” or alternative manufacturers where requested by the client to reduce the tender figure
  • In conjunction with the procurement department, record all tender correspondence in the appropriate manner and ensure vendor information is correct and up to date
  • Upon award of any project, prepare the tender handover pack in accordance with the tender handover meeting minutes, arrange, attend and where appropriate, chair the tender handover meeting
  • Arrange, attend and, where appropriate, chair the post-tender handover review meeting
  • Prepare the schedule of rates and/or bill of quantities for use by the commercial team
  • In conjunction with the operations team, assist in the preparation of the procurement and sub-contractor schedules for use within the project
  • Throughout the project lifecycle, assist the operations and / or commercial team in the pricing of any variation works taking due cognisance to pricing, commercial matters, programme implications and operative availability
  • Actively participate with the project team and maintain knowledge of ongoing activities on site
